There are multiple factors for the rebellion in the ranks in Shiv Sena. The MVA alliance to begin with was one of compulsion, compromises for all the three stake holders. Three years of the Uddhav Thackeray government also saw the unravelling of the Shiv Sena that has attempted an image make over while also trying to compete with the Hindutva bandwagon from the right wing eco system.

Not much is being said in the media about the state sanctioned phone tapping whose trail was allegedly led to former CM, Devendra Fadnavis. Also Central agencies like the Enforcement Directorate where unleashed on almost every important minister in the state. Rebel shiv sainiks that i spoke to have confessed to an exhaustion over handling the constant fear of the agencies. In the last few months , many had tried to suggest to Uddhav to make peace with the BJP and ally with it to get the ED of their backs.

News Channels are talking about the lack luster performance of Uddhav as the Chief minister. To the contrary, most of the rebels are of the opinion that Uddhav should continue as the CM. The insistence is to join hands with the BJP

At this point, even if MVA scrapes through this litmus test, the BJP led by Devendra Fadnavis will only intensify the battle for the state. BJP insiders suggest that for Shah-Modi, the wait for assembly elections in 2024 is a long one. They need Maharashtra at all cost. I believe in the next twenty four hours, Maharashtra will have the answer

The answer seem far from being know by today. What do you think should be response of Mr UT knowing the fact that going with BJP can only mean the reducing oneself to irrelevance when you’re a regional party.

Fresh elections should be conducted.

I Still hope that MVA somehow remains with some last minute turnarounds.

The sentiment amongst observers is that the MVA has lost Maharashtra. But the thing about Indian politics and more so Maharashtra Politics that is so multi layered, you cannot predict the outcome till the last minute.

Where do you see the survival of regional parties in states?

Right now I see the fate of every regional party in India linked to Central agencies that have been unleashed against the opposition

Fadnavis’s power lust has become so obviously vulgar now, that people in Maharashtra realise it. My guess is, even if BJP manages to grab the power now, Shivsena will come with majority in next elections which are two years away.

What’s your opinion on MVA’s performance these three years. I don’t think anyone expected a coalition with such diverse ideology ( not to mention the fact that they be at each other’s throats until MVA ) to last this long. Especially in the face of a strong BJP in center and state.

We must measure MVA’s performance in the context of BJP’s performance in the centre & the other BJP ruled states. MVA has done better. only one reason is more than enough - MVA hasn’t engaged in racial / communal bias while governing, and is much more liberal when it comes to citizens’ rights ( comparatively ). Modi/Shah’s BJP is wrecking the country & must be stopped, and keeping Maharashtra away from them is important.

The unfolding of events reveal that UT could not manage and carry his team well which gave an opportunity to BJP to exploit the situation by hook and crook. He may not have been proactive and failure of his intelligence to nip in the bud. It is too late now. The numbers are strongly in favor of BJP; only savior could be the anti defection law. Let us wait and watch...

We will have to wait and watch with optimism. The next twenty four hours will reveal the road ahead. It will also pave way for the narrative for the 2024 elections

Back door entry for BJP -- Either they rule by hate and vote -- like UP or if they loose power in vote -- They buy MLAs and break the political structure -- They need to be in power by hook or by crook.

Now Muslims in Maharashtra need to worry -- like UP -- Bulldozers , UAPA, NSA etc are coming for Muslims-- Unfortunately

This has been long in the offing. As far as majoritarian politics is concerned, it remains to be seen how Maharashtra resists this brand of perverse nationalism

We Maharashtrians are not bhaiyyas. Being a Muslim ( I am guessing by your name displayed) you are saying that now Muslims in Maharashtra need to worry? If you were true muslim, you would not have said it because it's like you are saying our IMAAN is weak. Which is not. Muslims will never be scared to these monkeys. However they will get upset or irritated. No matter what happens People of Maharashtra will not be like thos ILLITERATE BHAIYYAS.

Br. Sultan -- Wow. I thought this platform is to discuss issues with civility rather than degrading any Muslim from any part of the world. I left India in 1984. When I left it was a different India. I see the problem within Indian Muslim community in India. I don't think there is need to use this kind of words -- ILLITERATE BHAIYYAS . Kind of surprised . I thought Indian muslims are united and will fight together. I guess I was wrong.

So I am in Canada -- whom do I support as Ummah -- Marathi Muslims or UP Muslims -- Please suggest

Brother I am not asking you to support muslim from anywhere. All I am asking you not to discourage muslims by saying what you said muslim from Maharashtra would be scared n all. And Illiterate bhaiyyas was used for those who are followers of this hate crime regime against muslims of the world present in UP currently.

You left in 1984 and, therefore are likely to be inclined to see India in darker terms. Happens with most NRIs , whether Hindu/Muslim/Xian. We who live here cant afford that and have to find hopeful avenues . I do think that Marathas , thr bulk of M'rashtra's pop are not anti-Muslim . Mohamed Suktan refers to the HINDU majority in UP as "illiterate Bhaiyyas", not the MUslims there. I agree that labelling like this is best avoided. Trouble is that the Thakur-Brahmin section is quite communal and with their high land ownership, they are able to dominate and move some OBCs as well. Without calling them anything, as a Tamilian, I can assure yoiu I am very concerned by their proclivity to impose Hindi on everyone.
