Take the gory beheadings that shocks us when depicted in gory IS videos, for instance. The Quran advocates those beheadings. Those IS fighters didn´t invent the passages of the Quran they quote to justify it. It was Muhammad who instructed them to "strike off their heads" (Quran, 8:12), not the "extremist islamists".
Other things that the Quran justifies include:
sex slaves
wife beating
suicide attacks
sex with minors
stealing from infidels
money extortion from other religions
The Hadith, the second most sacred book for muslins, is even worse. It describes in graphic detail how Muhammad tortured a Jew, took his property and raped the widow. He encouraged, according to the Hadith, the rape of women in front of their husbands and fathers. All that from the man the Quran says is the highest standard of character.
The Old Testament has violent passages as well, but they are not open-ended orders as "O you who believe! Fight those of the unbelievers who are near to you and let them find in you hardness" (Quran, 9:123) or "I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them" (Quran, 8:12).
For these, the mere suggestion of moral equivalence between the Islam and Christianity or Judaism is extremely offensive to Christians and Jews who bothered to read the Bible, the Torah and the Quran.
