In 2014, the Modi government came to power h citing the Nirbhaya gang rape in its campaign. Remember the 'janta maaf nahi karegi' videos. To release these 11 men who gangraped a pregnant women is a new low even by the BJP governments own standards of justice in 2002

“The modern day 'Neros' were looking elsewhere when Best Bakery and innocent women and children were burning,” the judges said. “Those who are responsible for protecting life and property and ensuring that investigation is fair seem to have shown no anxiety. A large number of people had lost their lives. Whether the accused were really assailants or not could have been established by a fair and impartial investigation,”

Bano deserved justice from the state that inflicted the trauma on her, from the former chief minister of the state who runs the country today and calls himself a chowkidar of women and children and the dignity of 1.3 billion Indians.

One by one, the men took turns to rape a pregnant Bilkis Bano in 2002. They kept attacking her with their knives – her body had slits all over. Her cousin who had delivered a baby two days ago did not escape the savagery of the man who kept raping and finally killed her. The men kept violating her while another man slit her mother’s throat. Assuming her to be dead, the rioters left her. When Bilkis gained consciousness a couple of hours later she covered her body with a petticoat and walked to the interiors of another village seeking help from an adivasi woman.

A government that criminalised triple talaq on the pretext of 'liberating' Muslim women has consistently denied justice to women of not just the Gujarat riots but also the extra judicial murder of Muslim women. The CBI in its report told the Supreme Court that Kauser Bi, the wife of Sohrabuddin was raped, sedated, burnt to death and the remains thrown in the river. All the culprits are free and have been reinstated by the Modi government

Bilkis Bano is the face of the oppression against the marginalized in 2002. She is the face of oppression by the man who looked the other way as Gujarat burnt. She is the face of injustice of a genocide that the government wants us to believe never happened. The story of Bilkis was repeated with Ishrat Jahan and Kauser Bi.

Hi Rana. I have been following you for sometime and you are fantastic and an inspiration to all of us in this country. I wanted to ask. Sometimes I feel helpless, given the state of our country and looking at countries in the west. I still feel they have the media, justice and a ecosystem of celebrities in sports and entertainment that stand up. I feel sad looking at our 3 Khan's staying silent, even after the Aryan Khan case, I feel pukish looking at Karan Johar retweeting and doing everything to promote our PM despite his ecosystem actively trying to destroy Bollywood. What do you think about this? Are they really spineless or just protecting themselves. I know people who have connected with you and I know some of these guys do donate resources in secret

Hello Rana, first up I want to say that I really admire your writing and your work.

I personally have lost my hope, the government is one thing, my hope is lost with people of this country. There is a clear divide and it is getting wider with each day.

On this topic, you say that "our silence is aiding the injustice", why do you say so? And if we are silent what do you think we ought to be doing?
