Thank you all. It means a lot that you posed these questions at such a short notice. I might not agree but i deeply respect the contrarian views. The bottom line, we as Indians need to be together, speak for each other, fight for pluralism. I am deeply desi and I obsess over this beautiful country of mine that i have never left despite fellowships, job opportunities. I will as a journalist keep fighting for humanity in this glorious nation. Let us do these discussions more often. Regards

Generally I do not respond to haters as they are blind folded with an enmity and hatred and they are far away from the truth. It's not the eyes that are blind but it's heart that can not perceive .

Writing about Muhammad Peace be upon him , the prophet of Islam, the Orientalist scholar W Montgomery Watt wrote: "Of all the world's great men, none has been so much maligned as Muhammad pbuh." His quote seems all the more poignant in light of the recent remarks , Islamophobic film, which has sparked controversy all over world which, among other slanders, depicts Muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa sallamas a paedophile. This claim is a recurring one among critics of Islam, so its foundation deserves close scrutiny. Its not something new and its not last as they are the same ones who have spoken about God without knowledge and associate his attributes with animals , rocks, idols , humans and I don't know what else. God is above all from what they associate. I wish they could have picked up the Quran and the study the biography of our prophet in an open and honest way . But I assume they will never do it as hatirsm has gone deep inside their hearts which has made them blind . We are not afraid of debate but just labelling is a sign of ignorance and ill minded society . Deviating a society from truth is not only crime but injustice to yourself and they will take burden of their wrong doings in this world and the hereafter .

Critics allege that Aisha was just six years old when she was betrothed to Muhammad peace be upon him himself in his 50s, and only nine when the marriage was consummated. They base this on a saying attributed to Aisha herself (Sahih Bukhari volume 5, book 58, number 234), and the debate on this issue is very interesting by the fact that this is not 100% to be a historically accurate in terms of numbering the years during those times . And remember the hadith states that marriage is void unless entered into by consenting adults ( wali) , Aisha must have entered puberty early.

The historian point out that , in seventh-century Arabia, adulthood was defined as the onset of puberty. (This much is true, and was also the case in Europe: five centuries after Muhammad's marriage to Aisha, 44 year-old King John of England married 12-year-old Isabella of Angoulême.) Interestingly, of the many criticisms of Muhammad made at the time by his opponents, none focused on Aisha's age at marriage. This was never a discussion of debate in many centuries but it has evolved over past few years by Islam critics but they are not ready to be educated or debate in open media House. Just typing few bad lines againt prophet is an insult to yourself and your parents and culture, it depicts nothing but your ignorance ( jahil ) and up bringing . They are product of hatrism and enmity so they only spit venom and nothing else. They bite their fingers in rage . Does it affect us ...not at all.

According to western historian perspective, Aisha may have been young, but she was not younger than was the norm at the time. In a society without a birth registry and where people did not celebrate birthdays, most people estimated their own age and that of others. Aisha would have been no different.

Because of this, it is impossible to know with any certainty how old Aisha was. What we do know is what the Qur'an says about marriage: that it is valid only between consenting adults, and that a woman has the right to choose her own spouse. As the living embodiment of Islam, Muhammad's peace be upin him actions reflect the Qur'an's teachings on marriage.

The critics ( haters knowingly or unknowingly ) to keep others in dark from reaching the truth of Islam ignored the fact that before his marriage to Aisha, Muhammad peace be upon him had been married to Khadija, a powerful businesswoman 15 years older than him for 25 years. When she died, he was devastated and friends encouraged him to remarry. A female acquaintance suggested Aisha, a bright and vivacious character.Of the women Muhammad peace be upon him married, the majority were widows.

What the records are clear and documented on is that Muhammad peace be upon him and Aisha had a loving and egalitarian relationship, which set the standard for reciprocity, tenderness and respect enjoined by the Quran. Insights into their relationship, such as the fact they liked to drink out of the same cup or race one another, are indicative of a deep connection which belies any misrepresentation of their relationship.

To paint Aisha as a victim is completely at odds with her persona. She was certainly no wallflower. During a controversial battle in Muslim history, she emerged riding a camel to lead the troops. She was known for her assertive temperament and mischievous sense of humour – with Muhammad peace be upon him sometimes bearing the brunt of the jokes. During his lifetime, he established her authority by telling Muslims to consult her in his absence; after his death, she went to be become one of the most prolific and distinguished scholars of her time.

A stateswoman, scholar, mufti, and judge, Aisha combined spirituality, activism and knowledge and remains a role model for many Muslim women today. The gulf between her true legacy and her depiction in Islamophobic materials is not merely historically inaccurate, it is an insult to the memory of a pioneering woman. Its an insult to your own mothers .

Those who manipulate it in order to depict Islam as a religion that legitimises such abuse are enemy of God and truth . Its like abusing their own mothers .They demonstrate a disregard for what we know about the times in which Muhammad peace be upon him lived, and for the affirmation of female autonomy which her story illustrates and the rights of women that were granted to women by Islam was never heard of it .

Islam is the culmination of the universal message of God taught by all of His prophets. Muslims believe that a prophet was chosen for every nation at some point in their history, enjoining them to worship God alone and delivering guidance on how to live peacefully with others. Some of the prophets of God include Adam, Noah, Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad, peace be upon them all. The prophets all conveyed the consistent divine message of worshiping one God, along with specific societal laws for each nation’s circumstances.

However, after the prophets delivered the divine guidance to their people, their message was lost, abandoned, or changed over time, with only parts of the original message intact. God then sent another prophet to rectify their beliefs. So invite you to the fold of Islam if God wills only.

Pure Monotheism:

“God: there is no god but Him, the Ever Living, the Ever Watchful. Neither slumber nor sleep overtakes Him. All that is in the heavens and in the earth belongs to Him. Who is there that can intercede with Him except by His leave? He knows what is before them and what is behind them, but they do not comprehend any of His knowledge except what He wills. His throne extends over the heavens and the earth; it does not weary Him to preserve them both. He is the Most High, the Tremendous.” [Quran, 2:255]

The primary pillar of Islamic belief clearly states that there is nothing worthy of worship except God. Associating partners with God or attributing qualities of lesser beings to Him is considered to be the greatest sin in Islam.

In the past, this often took the form of idol worship or praying to multiple lesser gods. Although this is less common now, the current era has replaced many of the physical ‘idols’ of the past with other contemporary ‘gods.’ Many people today allow passions like entertainment, drugs, relationships or material objects to become the center of their lives. They become so consumed with these things that they submit to whatever will allow them to fulfill their desires. For example, if a drug addict allows their addiction to control their actions, beliefs, feelings, and behaviors, causing them to risk their personal safety and the safety of others, that drug has essentially become their god. Likewise, if another person puts a loved one before God by obeying that person even if that causes them to transgress against God’s commands, their loved one has taken precedence over God.

Fully accepting the oneness of God is to accept that He is distinct from everything else. It would not suit God’s majesty and glory to associate the limited attributes of His creation to Him because He is not restricted in any way, while His creation is. He is the First with no beginning and the Last with no end. Everything in the universe was created by His will. He is not confined by space or time and He is the only One who is in control and provides for His creation.

“He is God: there is no god other than Him. It is He who knows what is hidden as well as what is in the open, He is the Lord of Mercy, the Giver of Mercy. He is God: there is no god other than Him, the Controller, the Holy One, Source of Peace, Granter of Security, Guardian over all, the Almighty, the Compeller, the Truly Great; God is far above anything they consider to be His partner. He is God: the Creator, the Originator, the Shaper. The best names belong to Him. Everything in the heavens and earth glorifies Him: He is the Almighty, the Wise.” [Quran, 59:22-24]

God is the Creator and the Sustainer of the universe who created everything for a reason. Muslims believe that He created humankind with a simple purpose – to worship Him. He sent messengers to guide people in fulfilling this purpose. Some of these messengers include Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad, peace be upon all of them. They all taught a consistent message about God by affirming His greatness as the Creator and guiding people to worship Him alone. This basic concept has always resonated with people’s natural understanding of God. (Click here to learn more about prophets in Islam.)

When the final prophet, Muhammad, peace be upon him (pbuh), was asked about God, the answer came directly from God in the holy book of Muslims, the Quran (also spelled ‘Koran’): “Say, ‘He is God the One, God the eternal. He begot no one nor was He begotten. No one is comparable to Him.’” [112:1-4] This is a clear statement by God describing Himself to humanity without any room for confusion. God is One and is exalted above everything He creates and He is capable over all things.

Monotheism, belief in one God, is the most important and foundational concept in Islam. Muslims believe in one God who created the universe and has power over everything within it. He is unique and exalted above everything He creates, and His greatness cannot be compared to His creation. Furthermore, He is the only one deserving of any worship and the ultimate purpose of all creation is to submit to Him. The Islamic understanding of God is distinct from all other religions and beliefs in various respects since it is based on a pure and clear understanding of monotheism. This essentially captures the concept of God in Islam, which will be further elaborated in this pamphlet.

Muslims often refer to God as Allah. This is a universal name for God and does not refer to an exclusively ‘Islamic’ God. Interestingly, this name is related to the Aramaic and Hebrew names for God, Allaha and Elohim. Therefore, Allah is simply the Arabic name for God which affirms that He is One singular God with no partners or equals. The name Allah cannot be pluralized or limited to a specific gender, which establishes that God is One and that He is unique from everything He creates. Muslims continue to use this original Arabic name for God (Allah) since it perfectly expresses His unique qualities.

First of all congraulate you asking the most imoptant question of your life that would detemine your eternal life forever. It is such an important question if not answered , I may be questionable on the day of Judgement from hiding the truth.

Praise be to Allah.

Muslims believe in one, unique, incomparable, and singular God, whose name in Arabic is "Allaah", literally meaning "The God"; in the angels created by Him; in the prophets through whom His revelations were brought to mankind; in God's complete authority over human destiny, and in life after death.

Muslims believe in a chain of prophets (may the peace and blessings of Allaah be upon them all) starting with Adam and including Noah, Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Job, Moses, Aaron, David, Solomon, Elias, Jonah, John the Baptist and Jesus, peace be upon them.

God's final message to man, a reconfirmation of the eternal message and a summing-up, synopsis, and perfection of all that has gone before was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad , peace be upon him, the last prophet, through the angel Gabriel.

The second part of your question is an indication of your mindset but anyway what me being born in India has to do with my beliefs. Islam is my religion of my choice and deep study . I do not dwell in racism or fascist comments like how you just pronunced. If you mean Islam by Arabic cult , then I pity on your knowledge and the kind of enemity and hatred you have to live everyday .

Let me give you little brief about Islam .

GOD taught us everythng since ages through his prophets and have revealed the scriptures detailing the life and its cycle and universe origin The easiest way to worship the God without getting into complex nature is to worship the creator but not his creations . We worship only one God that is source of everything and all powerful but not his creations like atoms , time, rivers , humans, sun, moon , trees ....they all are its creation. We have to worship the creator and be grateful to the creater who created a life out of water for us to survive with vegetations and other stuffs but in return what we did ...we started worshipping his creations . We have to respect his creations and take care of it and be thankful to the blessing and gifts of God whether its knowledge or health or family or friends and so on so forth. We have to be grateful to the creator alone and take care of our parents and guide mankind to the truth of worshipping one god alone. That's how we shall worship the God. We shall not be extremist out of emotions and start worshipping his creations and go away from a straight path.

This is as simple as that that but mankind is always being selfish and impatience . They have either promote themselves to be called a kind of divine for social benefits / authority over them or at times by passage of era and period , knowingly / unknowingly their followers out of extreme love and emotions have taken the messangers, prophets , saints .....as divine and started seeking help from them after their death . Thus they have deviated away from the fundamental truth . They started associating partners with God forgetting that God never dies but his creation dies and soul is returned back to the creator for the final judgement. We will die and return back to ur creator and that is the case with all prophets, Messengers, saints and so on so forth. God is the Self-existent Who was not given life, cannot be caused to die or brought back to life by anyone else. God is eternal, without beginning or end, and is thus a Unique Being who has no equal.

Once you know the truth to worship one God and He is all alone , powerful and creator of all that exists in the universe . He is One God for all his creations and to whom belongs alone whatever is in the heaven and earth . Then we have to seek the truth And have to find our own individual journey to reach out for truth with open mind and without any kind of hatrism and enemity and supremacy feeling or racism. You are going to die alone , you will be judged based on your actions . God has given us intellect to study deep and understand it by pondering and reflecting upon our beliefs.

I read all Scriptures from vedas to old testament to new testament or Chinese mythology but I find that oneness of God in pure form is only intact in Islam . It does not mean that oneness of God is not there in vedas but it has lost over a period of time and have deviated from true santan dharm. By word Islam itself means a complete submission to the Will of creator , one God who is Almighty and powerful .God sent the final prophet to all mankind, he is prophet for all of us to bring us out of darkness to light and worship one God alone . That's the message conveyed by all prophets and its the same message of unity to come together .

Yes you many found it hard to accept Islam because there is so much widespread criticism of Islam in media but reading Quraan with open mind give all answers to old civilasation, mythology , Christianity, Hinduism, capitalism, and other schools of philosophy .

Indeed shaitan is an open enemy and will not allow you to read Quran but I leave you with below link to find the truth.

https://m.clearquran.com/002.html

If you’re a non-Muslim who has read, is reading, or thinking about reading the Qur’an, then that’s great. There is way too much misquotation, misrepresentation, and, simply, false accusations attributed to the Qur’an, and the best way to truly understand the book is, well, by reading it.

O people! Worship your Lord who created you and those before you, that you may attain piety.

He who made the earth a habitat for you, and the sky a structure, and sends water down from the sky, and brings out fruits thereby, as a sustenance for you. Therefore, do not assign rivals to God while you know.

There is no compulsion in religion and God has given every individual ability to correlate and ponder over the creations . Everything can be blind but religion can never be blind . Its unfair for God to leave person alone without intellect but has given every human a brain to reflect and study with pure intentions and remember sincerity is known to God . Some claim to see God in dreams , its unfair for God to show himself by dream to one individual and not to others , this is not rationale or justice....it is as if leaking the examination papers to one student and hiding it from rest . God is just and above all from what we associate . The knowledge that is imbeded in everyones heart to Worship only one God, this is always there by default since our birth but our culture and parents drive us into some kind of ritual and image worship but without any evidence found in any Scriptures including vedas. Thats why you see people naturally looking up to the heaven when they are very extreme happy or in extreme pain . This way of expression in Islam is called natural instinct to thank God or seek help from the God alone above. But shaitan has deceived us as once our problem is sought or solved we go and join partners with God , this is called kufr ( associating partners with God ) . Think about it .

Heaven and hell is true , death is fundamental truth so seek the truth before its too late .

I am going to die so you are . Don't let that day to be your first day to know the truth .

May God give us knowledge which is beneficial. May God Guide all of us .

How Does One Become Muslim?

If someone considering becoming Muslim but not sure what it entails? The first step is to ensure you understand the basic beliefs of Islam (found here). These beliefs consist of:

Belief in one God, who has no partner or son or parents or siblings and He alone us the creator .

All Prophets and Messengers sent to mankind

All scripture revealed by God

Angels

Day of judgment

God’s decree

These beliefs are what make one a Muslim. If you believe in these things you are ready to become a Muslim. To become a Muslim, you simply have to declare the testimony of faith (in Arabic it is called the shahada).

Ash Hadu An Laa Elaaha Illa Allah

(I bear witness that there is no God except Allah)

Wa Ash Hadu Ana Muhammad Rasul Allah

(And I bear witness that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah).

The Shahada is the first pillar of Islam and is what makes one a Muslim. The five pillars of Islam (found here) consist of:

The testimony of faith

Five daily prayers

Giving Charity

Fasting the month of Ramadan

Performing pilgrimage to Mecca once in your life

Thats it and you become a Muslim.

What do Muslims believe?

Muslims believe in God the Creator of the universe. The Arabic term for God is Allah. Sometimes Muslims prefer to use the name Allah over God because Allah linguistically does not have a gender and cannot be made plural. The English name God could become goddess or gods. The main message of the Qurʾān is that God is one. He has no partner, child, or helper.

Muslims believe in angels. There are many angels and that all obey God. Unlike humans, angels do not have free will and must obey all the commands of God. Different angels have different tasks. For example, the angel Gabriel was responsible of communicating the message of God to human Prophets and Messengers. The Angel Michael (Mikaaeel) was responsible for rain. Angels also help and assist believers in times of difficulty.

Muslims believe in all Prophets and Messengers. A Muslim is required to believe in Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, David, Joseph, Jesus, and Muhammad peace be upon all of them. They all came with the same message, to worship one God and not associate any partners with him.

Muslims also believe in all previous scripture that God sent to His Prophets and Messengers. Moses was given the Torah, Abraham was given the scrolls, David was given the Psalms, and Jesus was given the Injeel. With the exception of the Qurʾān, no previous scripture is completely preserved in its original form. With time, many of these scriptures were lost or corrupted. The Qurʾān was sent as a the “final testament” and it functions as God’s final message to mankind.

Muslims believe in the afterlife. There will be a day of judgment where God will hold people accountable for their actions in this world. Those who did good will enter paradise and those who did evil will either be forgiven or punished in hell. Everyone will be compensated for their actions in this world.

Lastly, Muslims believe in God’s divine will and decree. God has knowledge of all things that will happen. He does not force humans to make decisions, we choose what we want to do. However, there are certain things that God decreed and are outside of our control. These things include the time and place we were born, where and when we will die, and anything that happens that is outside our control. Muslims submit to these things as part of God’s decree and will.

Belief in these six items is what makes one a Muslim. One might not practice Islam perfectly, they may commit sins and make mistakes, but as long as they have these beliefs they are considered to be a Muslim. Put differently, these are the most basic requirements of being a Muslim. Have more questions? Please read yourself

In summary ,

Islam is the name of the religion that Muslims follow. People who practice Islam are called Muslims, just like those who practice Christianity are called Christians. The literal and lexical meaning of Islam means submission. Islam comes from the root Arabic letters s-l-m which are the same root letters the word peace (salam) comes from. The term Islam itself does not mean peace, but it implies that one finds peace (salam) through submission (islam). The term Arab is often used interchangeably with Muslim, but this is incorrect. Arab is a race while Islam is a religion. Not all Arabs are Muslim and most Muslims are actually not Arab. Arabs make up about 13% of the Muslim population.

Islam is named after the action of submitting to God’s commands and will and not a person. Other religions are often named after a person or people. For instance, Christianity is named after Christ, Judaism is named after the tribe of Juda, and Buddhism is named after Buddha. Islam is not name after Muhammad because Islam existed before him. The message of previous Prophets, such as Adam, Abraham, Noah, and Moses was to submit (islam) to God. Hence, the message of Islam did not start with the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him. It started with Adam and continued until today. With the passing of time, God would send new Prophets and Messengers to remind mankind of His message, to worship Him alone. Muhammad peace be upon him is the last of these Prophets.

Why Islam?

If you agree with the basic concepts in my below post , you may still ask why Islam stands out from other religions. The reason is simply that Islam is the final and complete way of life that God revealed to guide humanity. Previous divine messages (such as the ones taught by Abraham, Moses and Jesus) have been lost or altered throughout time. God chose to send Muhammad (pbuh) to deliver His final message, which maintains the core teachings of all the previous revelations. The book sent to Muhammad (pbuh) was the Quran, which was revealed as guidance for all of humanity. Just like the Torah sent to Moses and the Gospel sent to Jesus, the Quran is a guidebook teaching us how to worship God in the purest manner and thereby achieve our purpose in life. The Quran is unique because it has remained preserved in its exact and original form for more than 1,400 years. (Arindam : Learn more about Preservation of the Quran)

Islam is not a new way of life; rather, it is the final message, which upholds the same essential beliefs that God sent to humanity through all of His messengers. Through this message, God calls on each individual to lead a conscientious life by drawing close to Him and to remain cognizant of their final accountability in front of the one and only God.

“Has the time not come for those who have believed that their hearts should become humbly submissive at the remembrance of Allah and what has come down of the truth?” [Quran, 57:16]

I tried to enlighten with basic understanding in terms of Islamic perspective and western historians observation but it seems you got stuck with all negativity ( I hope it's not hatred ) hate but any way let me invite you again to read it with patience and a clear mind and correct intentions- it's vital to keep our intellect level working . Knowledge is key to ignorance as we all will agree. Here we go :

It is reported that:

Narrated ‘Aisha: that the Prophet (ﷺ) married her when she was six years old and he consummated his marriage when she was nine years old. (Al-Bukhari, al-Sahih, )

The issue of Prophet Muhammad’s (ﷺ) marriage with nine-year old Aisha ( May God be pleased with her ) continues to be a primer in polemic talk on Islam. What makes it challenging for Islamic critics dwelling in extreme hatred to be explained and grasp its rationale is the number of sociological and demographic factors involved and the concomitant sensitivities that have undergone changes especially over the last century which is the only period this marriage has been a subject of polemics and apologetics.

Age of puberty varies from civilization to civilization for a host of factors ranging from geography and climatic conditions to cultural aspects such as staple food and gender roles. One study says;

It is well known that geographic, ethnic, and genetic factors interact with socioeconomic status, health, nutrition, and emotions to determine the precise age of onset of puberty for any single individual ( Nancy J. Hopwood, et al, “The Onset of Human Puberty: Biological and Environment Factors” in John Bancroft & June Machover Reinisch, Adolescence and Puberty, (New York: Oxford University Press, 1990).

While our Mother, Lady ‘Aisha, may have been as young as 9 years old when she married the Messenger of God ﷺ, the controversy surrounding her age is a manufactured one. During the lifetime of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, his enemies would search for any way possible to harm and defame him. They called him crazy, spread false rumors about his wife committing adultery, and tried to kill him on multiple occasions. They took advantage of any opportunity to physically harm him or expose a potential flaw. So one would have to ask: if the age of ‘Aisha was truly controversial, why didn’t his contemporary enemies use it against him?

The controversy over the age of ‘Aisha is, in fact, a quite recent phenomenon. It is quite simply an attempt to defame the Prophet ﷺ—as those of old attempted to do—by questioning his judgment and ethics in marrying ‘Aisha at as young as 9. But this attempt at defamation, like all others, falls flat.

In seventh century Arabia nine years was not considered precocious an age for puberty at least among girls. This has been reported by ‘Aisha herself and is corroborated by information otherwise. Harb bin Isma’il Al-Kirmani (d. 280/893) states:

حدثنا إسحاق، قال: أنبا زكريا بن عدي، عن أبي المليح، عن حبيب بن أبي مرزوق، عن عائشة -رضي الله عنها-، قالت: إذا بلغت الجارية تسعا فهي امرأة

Ishaq [bin Rahawayh] narrated to us on the authority of Zakariyya bin ‘Adi from Abu Malih [Al-Raqiy] from Habib bin Abi Marzuq that ‘Aisha said: “When a girl reaches nine years of age she is a woman.” ( Tirmidhi, al-Sunan/ al-Jami’ al-Kabir, (Riyadh: Maktaba Dar-us-Salam, 2007) Vol.2, 480 (under hadith 1109)

Unlike our day one and a half millennium years ago there was no concept of completing formal education at college or university and no pressures of taking up carrier in one or other field especially for women and that too in the tribal society of Makkah. In the absence of such ‘compelling’ causes of delay the natural stage of marriage was not essentially pushed for long after the onset of puberty and upon due physical growth (cf. Nina Epton’s observation about 20th century Britain )

Here is detailed answer on Puberty with authentic hadiths .

A number of factors point that ‘Aisha had indeed attained puberty by the time marriage was consummated.

4.1 Delayed consummation

Whereas nikah – the marriage contract – was made when ‘Aisha was six or seven, consummation was delayed for over two years till ‘Aisha turned nine. Tabari, an early authority thus observes;

فأما عائشة فكانت يوم تزوجها صغيرة لا تصلح للجماع

As for ‘A’ishah, when he married her she was very young and not yet ready for consummation. ( Al-Tabari, Ibn Jarir, Tarikh al-Rusul wa al-Muluk ) . If the marriage was not consummated right away only because ‘Aisha was too young, the only logical implication is that she must have attained puberty and physical bearing by the time it was actually consummated.

4.2 ‘Aisha’s own statement in an ultimate evidence

‘Aisha’s own statement quoted above and below regarding age of puberty suggests it was true for herself as well.

At-Tirmidhi said: ‘Aa’ishah said: When a girl reaches the age of nine years, she is a woman. ( Sunan at-Tirmidhi (2/409)

This is what ‘Aa’ishah narrated concerning herself, and it was conveyed by the narrators from her, and it is what is stated in all the historical sources that give the biography of ‘Aa’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her). There is no difference among them concerning that, and the matter was not subject to ijtihaad. When a person speaks about himself (or herself), no one has the right to suggest anything else.

4.3 ‘Aisha’s parents asked for the marriage to be consummated.

Another significant proof of ‘Aisha’s puberty is in the fact that after nearly three years of marital contract the marriage was consummated at the behest of her parents. She reports;

عن عائشة قالت: تزوج بي النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم وأنا بنت ست فاستحث النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم أبواي بالبنا

The Prophet married me when I was six years old. He was then urged by my parents for consummating the marriage (three years later)[ Al-Isbahani, Abu Nu‘aim, Al-Tibb al-Nabawi]

And;

We then arrived at Medina, and I stayed with Abu Bakr’s children, and [Abu Bakr] went to the Prophet. The latter was then busy building the mosque and our homes around it, where he [later] housed his wives. We stayed in Abu Bakr’s house for a few days; then Abu Bakr asked [the Prophet] “O Messenger of God, what prevents you from consummating the marriage with your wife?” The Prophet said, “The bridal gift (sadaq).” Abu Bakr gave him the bridal gift, twelve and a half ounces [of gold], and the Prophet sent for us. ( Ibn Sa’d, Tabaqat al-Kubra )

Muhammad Asad saying it shows “Abu Bakr had to remind the Prophet that he take his bride,” further observes;

Incidentally, this reminder would imply that by then ‘A’ishah had reached puberty, and that Abu Bakr had become aware of it. ( Asad, Muhammad, Sahih al-Bukhari – The Early Years of Islam )

Moreover, ‘Aisha ( may ALLAAH be pleased with her ) has informed us that consummation actually happened in the house of Abu Bakr.

We moved to Medina and took up residence among the Bani al-Haith b. Khazraj in al-Sunh. The Messenger of Allah came into our house where he had a meeting with some of the men and women of the Ansar … The men and women then left. The Messenger of Allah consummated our marriage there in our house.[ Ahmad bin Hanbal, al-Musnad,]

Al-Tabari thus states;

the Messenger of God consummated his marriage to her on a Wednesday in Shawwal in the house of (her father) Abu Bakr in al-Sunh.[ Al-Tabari, Ibn Jarir, Tarikh al-Rusul wa al-Muluk,]

Along with the abovementioned narration this report effectively proves that ‘Aisha was not prepubescent at the time of her wedding. Karen Armstrong rightly observes, “Tabari says that she was so young that she stayed in her parents’ home and the marriage was consummated there later when she had reached puberty.”[ Armstrong, Karen, Muhammad: A Biography of the Prophet, ]

4.4 ‘Aisha’s mother taking care of her physical growth

There is evidence that ‘Aisha’s mother took special interest in her physical growth apparently preparing her for marital life. ‘Aisha herself recalled:

أرادت أمي أن تسمنني لدخولي على رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: فلم أقبل عليها بشيء مما تريد حتى أطعمتني القثاء بالرطب، فسمنت عليه كأحسن السمن

My mother intended to make me fat to send me to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ). But nothing nothing which she gave benefited me till she gave me cucumber with fresh dates to eat whereupon I gained weight in the best manner.[ Al-Sijistani, Abu Dawud, al-Sunan, ]

Other versions say that not only her mother, others besides were also satisfied over her growth. This also proves ‘Aisha’s mother had prepared her for conjugal life. It is only rational to suggest that no skepticism can override a mother’s conviction, at least not with regards to very private matters of a girl.

To paint Aisha as a victim is completely at odds with her persona. She was certainly no wallflower. During a controversial battle in Muslim history, she emerged riding a camel to lead the troops. She was known for her assertive temperament and mischievous sense of humour – with Muhammad sometimes bearing the brunt of the jokes.

Those who manipulate it in order to depict Islam as a religion that legitimises such abuse are enemy of God and truth . Its like abusing their own mothers without any shame. They demonstrate a disregard for what we know about the times in which Muhammad peace be upon him lived, and for the affirmation of female autonomy which her story illustrates and the rights of women that were granted by Islam was never heard of it till this date . ( Google it out ).

Why do people get offended when someone reads out a line from a religious book? Is the very same faith entirely based lies and false claims?

"Sahih al-Bukhari 5134 (Book 67, Hadith 70): Narrated `Aisha:that the Prophet (ﷺ) married her when she was six years old and he consummated his marriage when she was nine years old. Hisham said: I have been informed that `Aisha remained with the Prophet (ﷺ) for nine years (i.e. till his death)."

@Arindam C, we Muslims have nothing to hide about our faith. Yes, what you have stated is absolutely correct. Let me explain. In places with a hot desert climate, girls reach their menstrual age much faster than in countries like, say, Scandinavia, where it is not unusual for girls to be even 18 before they get their first period. A quick thought experiment for you: according to the current laws of our land, a woman can get married only when she's 18. So does that mean just a day prior to her 18th birthday, that is, when she is 17y+364d old, she is physically incapable of getting married? Of course not! Now let's go back a day: how about when she is 17y+363d old? We could keep going back this way in our thought experiment, and the only logical conclusion would be that a woman is not eligible for marriage even if she's 19 but has not yet had her periods. With this argument in focus, bear in mind that this was Arabian society of the 7th century where the average human lifespan and expectancy was much lower than it is now, and it would be ridiculous to apply our standards on that era. Not just in Arabia, but everywhere in the world at that time, the logic was plain and simple: as soon as a girl gets here menses, she would get married off by her parents. With a low life expectancy, those people just didn't have the luxury of waiting until she was in her teens to get her married off. Things should be looked at in their proper context.

Child marriage is not a big deal, it was present even in India back in those days. But marriage between "2 kids" and "a 52-year-old (grandfatherly) man with a 6-year-old kid" are not the same. You can justify the first one, but not the second one. It's simply not possible for a sensible person.

Expand full comment

Please get the terms of your argument right. What's your issue? a) Marriage between a menstruating girl and a man; or b) Marriage between two people with a vast age difference. Please do not mix up the two. I have already explained the former in my reply to you. As for point (b), we have many instances in the world we live in today of men (and women) marrying youngsters much below their age. We have many such instances in the USA where the man was nearly 50 years older than the young woman, so why don't you protest that?

Expand full comment

The issues are - 1) Mental immaturity of the girl and 2) Willingness of the man to marry and have *** with a girl of his granddaughter's age

Expand full comment

As for the second point first, marriage happens for sex. All of us debating here on this forum today happen to be here because two people decided to have sex, so there's nothing inherently dirty about that act. To use more refined language, however, I have already explained to you that marriage happens between humans and not between calendar dates. So please don't use that argument with me again about age difference: I think I have explained that amply enough. Now coming to your first point, let me tell you something: speaking as a man I have always found girls in their 20s to be silly and immature, even when I was in college. (Even males in that age are silly and immature, lest someone accuse me of being misogynistic, but I am speaking here as a man.) I seriously feel that women mature only when they are in their 30s, and they bloom best when they are in their 40s, and decades back as a young bachelor, I would secretly yearn to marry a woman who was at least in her 30s. But then, this is my personal preference; and it would not make sense for me to apply the same standards to other men. Some men like to marry younger women, while others prefer older ones. It's all boils down to the matter of personal choice. So you see, the whole notion of mental maturity or immaturity is purely subjective.

I would love to see how the French would react to a (currently hypothetical) cartoon of this sort! Remember, we can make fun of the dead (according to people of your ilk) regardless of how much these dead people are revered. And wait, I'm just getting warmed up. There were several more millions who were ruthlessly slaughtered by the Nazis in gas chambers, so should we draw similarly mocking cartoons of them? Do you think any country would protest against this? And what would your position be if that were to happen? I know exactly how people like you would react in that instance of selective indignation. One of the striking effects of faith is a feeling of gratitude towards God. Believers love God and are grateful to Him for the blessings He gives them. They are aware of the fact that their good deeds will never be equal to His divine favors upon them so they are always striving to please Him. Furthermore, sincere believers in God accept that any hardships they face are part of the greater ‘test of life.’ They are patient through times of difficulty and turn to God for assistance. A beautiful characteristic of the believers is that they accept everything God wills and continuously remember Him in all aspects of life.

Anyone who denies the basic truth of the existence of God is considered ungrateful and a disbeliever. On many occasions in the Quran, God reminds humanity of the disbelievers’ clear misguidance and His complete power over everything:

“Behold! Verily to Allah belong all creatures, in the heavens and on earth. What do they follow who worship as His “partners” other than Allah? They follow nothing but fancy, and they do nothing but lie.” [10:66]

“It is God who has given you the night in which to rest and the day in which to see. God is truly bountiful to people, but most people do not give thanks. Such is God your Lord, the Creator of all things: there is no god but Him. How can you be so deluded? [40:61-62]

In the end, we must understand that our belief or disbelief in God does not affect Him in any way. Believing in Him, worshipping Him, and following His commands will only benefit us because we are in need of His blessings, favors and mercy. On the other hand, He does not need us because He is the Self-Sufficient Creator. However, it is never too late for a person to turn back to God, seeking His guidance and forgiveness by submitting to Him.

“Say: “O my Servants who have transgressed against their souls! Despair not of the Mercy of Allah: for Allah forgives all sins: for He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. Turn ye to our Lord (in repentance) and bow to His (Will), before the Penalty comes on you: after that ye shall not be helped. And follow the best of (the courses) revealed to you from your Lord, before the Penalty comes on you – of a sudden while ye perceive not!” [Quran, 39:53-55]

Expand full comment

God.

Islam teaches that people should completely submit only to God as He is the only One worthy of their worship. He is the Creator and Sustainer of the universe and everything in it belongs to Him. The Quran points out the faulty thinking of those who worship other than God:

“‘How can you worship things you carve with your own hands, when it is God who has created you and all your handiwork?’” [37:95-96]

The Believer’s Surrender

In order to be a true believer, one must believe in the absolute oneness of God, as the only Creator, Preserver and Nourisher of everything. However, this belief in the true characteristics of God is not the sole condition of true faith; one must also acknowledge that God is the only one who deserves to be worshipped. His commands and guidelines for how to live one’s life should always take precedence over the commands of anything He created. Indeed, He guides humanity to what is best for them in this life and the hereafter and He is All-Knowing and All-Wise.

Having embraced this understanding of God, one should constantly have faith in Him, and should remain steadfast on the truth. When true faith enters a person’s heart, it positively impacts their outlook and behavior. The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said, “Faith is that which resides firmly in the heart and which is proved by actions.”

Hi Rana, I wanted to get your thoughts on this entire thing from the perspective of economic incentive and international relations.

When the US commented, nothing was done because India knows US needs our support and that one odd comment could be managed. But with these many countries, that have 8L+ Indians there, and that contribute to us (inward remittances, direct investments, oil), there was an immediate action - suddenly, the two individuals became dispensable.

My point was that economic incentive trumps most other things. Now, with the same logic, if people and orgs with reach can start calling out:

1. Companies that provide ads to venomous TV news channels

2. Companies that own those channels that spread propaganda instead of news

3. The system that does not ask for transparency in political funding

4. Companies that sponsor politicians that spread hate

If this is done, and we see one action, it may have a trickle down effect - it just needs to be put out to the whole world in clear/precise manner - so their partners, investors, etc see it.

I think a lot of people don't react, because they don't know, because the news channels they see only show one side of the story. And 99% people still believe, "TV news pe aa raha hai to theek hi hoga", and they are happy voting for the same party, because we all know how they are projected in most TV news channels. How can this be achieved? Can the journalists, NGOs, independent societies, etc, be motivated to do this so all this business of hatred and bigotry and be put an end to?

Apologies for long question. Stay well. Satyamev Jayate !!

I have been wanting to ask you these questions that are part of just one broader significant question . I hope that you see this somehow and possibly reply to it too.

This haunts me throughout the day and I cannot sleep peacefully at night thinking about it. Ignoring it is obviously not an option, at least not a morally accepted one.

Coming to my question, it is so obvious that some citizens are being discriminated against by the governments on the basis of their religion and there is no immediate respite in sight. No one appears to be helpful, not even the big media and the judiciary. So what can an ordinary citizen do immediately today in these times? When are we going to see mass protests on the ground and on the streets by well-meaning individuals without the support of any political party? Is the change going to happen? Is it possible even in the near future? Please give your opinion and guide me. I'd be very thankful to you.

Also I am so sorry that I cannot become a paid subscriber yet due to some current financial problems. I promise this will be the first thing on my to-do list as soon as I overcome these problems. Always in awe of your brilliant work and ever-inspiring courage. Thanks!

Dear Rana Ayyub Mam, with all due respect to you, I want to ask why did you not condemn when people were making fun and Degoriotatory remarks for shivling comparing it with road barriers , Pen*s, saying rubish for Hindu Girl/women that they love worshipping pen*ses, you promoted a article which called Lord Rama a misogynist!? Right!? Why then you outrage when a person is quoting exactly what is written in the Holy Quran and The Hadith?!

What would be your advise to indian muslims and next generation of Muslims fo long term.

A few days ago there has been mockery about the Shivling which was openly shared and laughed around by your colleagues? Wasn't that blasphemy? Why this hypocrisy?

Also, isn't this reaction really points out to the intolerance of the Muslim world itself? At a time when you say Hindus are intolerant - I don't see any death threats, fatwas, open prize money on the heads of the perpetrators? Where is the real intolerance? And we will educated people like you start raising your voice against the issues and fundamentalism in Islam rather than propagating it?

Qatar and the rest of the middle east are strategic partners and hence GOI have to swallow this pil this time around. Probably GOI would learn from his and be better prepared next time. In summary we don't need lectures from OIC and the rest when all they are doing on China uighyurs issue is maintain silence.

ppl like geert wilders are supporting nupur sharma on her shameful remarks

i would like to say to everyone

that it is not about the age of mother aisha r.a

it is about the allegation she put on prophet mohammad s.a.w

regarding age people need to understand

it was norms at that time to marry at that age

1 of the major reason , people back then especially mother aisha r.a

was intelligent enough at 6 to understand and respect the value of relationship

the intelligence she had at 6 is far more than the people who are 60 now

ppl like nupur sharma , geert wilders etc who are in their 50s and still dont have common sense what to speak

this itself shows their level of intelligence

one of the hadith says

every marriage prophet did in his life time , first he got divine orders from Almight and on that he acted.

remember prophet was not ordinary man.

he followed only and only orders of Almighty.

Any policy that goes against human rights of any country or civilisation is a problem

So where is the statement in same time from OIC on China. Accept that India has always been a soft target for people charading as champions of human rights. If GOI is serious about it, they will be better prepared next time around

Do you agree with the death threats handed out to Nupur? She has now apologised for her comments. What do you expect more to happen? By the way did you criticise the Owaisi for openly ridiculing Hindu gods? Thanks for your reply 🙏🏼

How can any civil person advocate death threats. Sir, i would really like you to point out the statement by Asad Owaisi ridiculing Hindu Gods. Can you pls share the screenshot or speech

Expand full comment

Who is Owais? Did he mock Hindu Gods. If so, he should be able to do so and should not face any issues. It's a two way street.

Yes! However he was booked for some other stuff which was mentioned in the speech

I am sure you are aware of the hate speech. I am surprised if you are not. Perhaps you should also report the extremists from all communities! Just google Owaisi Junior hate speech! He is certainly more abrasive then Nupur Sharma

But What Nupur Sharma has said is factually true and is written in Sahih Bukhari

Then why so much undue outrage ?

Put restriction on news channels which spread hatred, but you should also think about the reason why majority started hating muslims.

What is the difference between Blasphemy and Freedom to speak? Should blasphemy laws be only for Minority religion or every religion there is. How would you react to Nupur Sharma controversy if you are either Narendra Modi or Amit Shah (don’t say I will resign)?
