How do you define a democracy on the 75th year of its independence when it choses
to assess the patriotism of it’s citizens through their love of the national flag, the
Indian tricolour. In the 75th year of its independence which is being celebrated as
‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ , people of the country have been asked to change
their display pictures in their social media profiles to the national flag, to take selfies
with the national flag and post it on social media. Shopkeepers have alleged that
they are forced to sell the national flag to those who are buying essential
commodities. In a video that has gone viral across the internet in India , daily wage
workers lament that they can barely manage enough for a meal but are being forced to
shell out money to buy the national flag to ‘prove’ their patriotism’
